Sound & Vision was a podcast looking for bold, psychedelic cover art.
I drew heavily on the art of Peter Max when illustrating this cover, employing a symmetrical abstract design with bold colors to surround the podcast title. I set the type in Jolly Roger for an authentic vintage feel.
The first design I submitted leaned into the vintage grunge. Grimy overlays and warm toned colors gave it a cigarette smoke patina. The client liked the design, but the treatment was a little too on the nose.
My second attempt featured a simplified design, a clearer toned rainbow color palette, and no overlays. The client preferred the more detailed version of the design and asked for a more modern color palette to offset the retro illustration.
The final design maintains the detail of the first, but uses a modern pastel color palette to bring us into the 21st century.
